Adoption Information

Welcome to Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, Inc. (FAPS) Web site. We are delighted that you are considering adopting a cat or dog from FAPS. For 28 years we have a proven track record of successfully rescuing, sheltering and placing companion animals into permanent, loving homes in the Fayetteville area.

With 28 years of experience in the animal sheltering field we try to avoid impulse adoptions by conducting "onsite" adoptions at our 3927 Bragg Blvd. facility.

We want you to find the perfect match for your family and lifestyle. For us this just makes sense! Come see us, we have over 100 highly adoptable cats and dogs waiting for that second chance!

Fees

Adoption Fees

Dog - $100 per dog
Cat - $70 per cat
Adoption Fees includes a cat/dog that has been spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies and current on all other routine vaccinations.

All adopted shelter pets come with a 30-day gift of "Pet Insurance," courtesy of Shelter Care. See shelter for details.

Surrender Fees

Cat or Dog - $50.00
Please provide proof of vaccinations, including rabies and any other pertinent information like a personality/temperament profile that will help us place your pet into a compatible home.
Because pet overpopulation is a problem in our area, it is FAPS' POLICY that all shelter pets are spayed or neutered before they can be introduced into our shelter population. When you adopt from FAPS, you are Adopting a Lifetime of Love, Not Reproduction!

*Military Personnel refer to the Military Pets section of our web site (see sidebar).

* Adoption/Surrender Fees

Adoption/surrender fees are assessed to defray FAPS' costs of spaying/neutering, vaccinating, microchipping, feeding, sheltering and emergency veterinary care of our animals. FAPS receives no state or federal funding and relies on adoption and surrender fees, grants, and donations from the public to continue to operate for the community.

We hope you will understand why we must charge a fee; keep in mind we are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.

Adoption Policy

The following information is requested of potential adopters to assist in the selection of a new pet. Our animals' welfare is our foremost consideration. The consultation process is designed to help us determine if the adoption is in the animal’s best interest and to assist you in finding a compatible companion that suits your lifestyle.

Below you will find our policy, adoption fee structure, and a sample of some of the important questions that will be asked when you visit our shelter seeking to adopt a cat or dog. The animals' welfare is in our best interest and we want to permanently place them, therefore an adoption application must be filled out in order to be considered for adoption.

Our residents available for adoption come from a variety of sources. All animals are examined upon arrival, and their health is routinely monitored while at the shelter, but there is always a chance than an animal is incubating a disease without showing any clinical signs.

Fortunately, with the assistance of local veterinarians we test and treat all heartworm positive dogs. All FAPS shelter dogs are placed on a monthly heartworm preventative and treated for this disease.

You MUST bring all small children and pets (cats/dogs) in your household with you to FAPS if you are planning on adopting from our shelter. This is to ensure that everyone "gets along" with your prospective FAPS pet. This also saves you a trip back home! Thank you for your cooperation!

Our adoption fee is $100 for a dog and $70 for a cat. All adoptions come with a three-day health guarantee. Within three days of adoption, you may return the dog/cat to FAPS for any health reason for a full refund. All adopters will also be placed on our mailing list so you will receive a complimentary subscription to PAW PRINTS, FAPS' quarterly newsletter, featuring the shelter, upcoming events, and success stories.

After the three-day (72 hours) health guarantee, any adopted animals are the sole responsibility of the adopter. FAPS will NOT be responsible for any veterinary bills or other expenses incurred by the adopter.

FAPS reserves the right to deny the adoption of any pet for any reason. No animal will be adopted to persons having an extensive history of losing, giving away, selling, or having animals injured or killed by moving vehicles.  No animal will be adopted to prospective owners who mislead or fail to provide accurate information on the adoption application.

FAPS conducts random checks of adopters and reserves the right to make a home visit to check on the animal’s welfare. If you fail to comply with the terms of our contract and/or North Carolina state law, confiscation of the cat/dog may occur and title to the animal will revert to FAPS. WE FULLY EXPECT THIS DOG OR CAT TO BE A LIFETIME COMMITMENT.
