Volunteer Program

Why Volunteer?

One of the best and most rewarding ways you can help animals in Cumberland County is by volunteer for Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, Inc. (FAPS)

FAPS is a no-kill animal shelter, meaning our shelter pets are humanely cared for until they are successfully placed into a loving home.  Volunteering at a no-kill shelter is much easier on volunteers because they can rest assured that euthanasia is not practiced to make room. We love and care for all of our shelter animals as if they were our own!

Volunteerism for animals can unlock skills, you may not have known you possessed. These skills can be applied towards work or a career in the animal care field.
What better way to get hands on experience than with our shelter staff, veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and administrative professionals?

Many high schools are now requiring volunteer hours for graduation. We welcome you to assist our shelter staff with various duties throughout the school year to complete these requirements. We offer shelter duties for volunteers of all ages at FAPS.

Connect with other animal lovers and form new friendships!

Helping improve the lives of animals in the community can be self-rewarding. Especially when you see that tail wag or hear that joyful purr. It takes just one person to make a big difference in the live of an animal.

If you are unable to have a pet of your own? Consider volunteering at FAPS and visiting with our shelter pets to satisfy that need! Rest assured when you leave them, they are in great hands with us!

Serve as a compassionate role model to children and other adults. Volunteer as little or as much as YOU like.

Volunteering for animals is so much fun! Get your family, spouse or partner, children, business, church or civic group involved with FAPS.

FAPS Success Story

First off, I just want to say "Thanks to FAPS" for rescuing Popeye, because if it weren't for them I never would have met my best friend. I met Popeye four years ago when I was doing some volunteer work at the shelter. I knew he was the one for me when he would hop three feet off the ground every time I would walk by or come in to feed him. His tail was always wagging and he seemed so happy even though I knew he had had such a hard, rough journey and had been neglected his whole life. He was already potty trained and he was so friendly to everyone he met. Popeye is seven now and everyday is full of laughs and surprises. His favorite things to do are chasing lizards, barking at the mailman, running around the block, and just being a lazy lap dog. If you ask Popeye if he wants a "BONE", he jumps up off the ground, his ears perk up, and he sprints into the kitchen and waits patiently by the cookie jar. Popeye truly is a wonderful dog and I'm so lucky to have him. I am sincerely grateful to FAPS for all their humanity and kindheartedness in rescuing all those wonderful dogs like Popeye!
